Congress needs to lift the ban on offshore as well as inland oil & natural gas drilling. U.S. Geological Survey reports indicate the United States has ample oil & natural gas reserves the oil companies are currently prohibited from accessing.   As you know, lifting the drilling ban is a first and essential step toward an affordable energy independent future. However, this victory would be only the first step. In addition authorizing the building of new modern refineries is essential to meet the requirements of future demand economically.  Congress will still need to create a comprehensive energy strategy that does not mandate, but that includes incentives for the development of nuclear, wind, solar, biofuels, and hydrogen in the private sector.  When the free market is ready, the “green economy” will appear.
